Style Guides
You can ensure content being checked follows specific stylistic rules by using a custom or predefined style guide. Built-in style guides are ready to use and include AP, Chicago, and Microsoft style.
PDFs or text files can be uploaded to create your own custom style guide by using the Create Style Guide endpoint. It can take some time to process a new style guide so you can monitor the status using the Get Style Guide endpoint. Once processing is complete, you can use your new style guide’s ID with the checks, suggestions, and rewrites endpoints and we’ll make sure your content follows the style guide.
Content Checks
Acrolinx checks your content against your style guide and returns detailed, structured feedback. When you send content to the API, it runs a series of checks to identify areas that don’t meet your brand, style, tone, or compliance requirements. These checks can catch issues like:
- Grammar and spelling errors
- Incorrect terminology usage
- Inconsistent tone or voice
- Unclear or overly complex writing
- Passive voice or vague phrasing
Content Suggestions
Suggestions are like content checks—just more powerful. Instead of only identifying what’s wrong, the Suggestions endpoint also tells you how to fix it.
Suggestions can include:
- Rewrites for unclear or complex sentences
- Edits to match your brand voice or tone
- Replacement terms for deprecated or incorrect terminology
- Fixes for grammar, punctuation, or spelling issues
- More concise phrasing to improve readability
Content Rewrites
Acrolinx doesn’t just flag issues. It can rewrite content to meet your style and brand guidelines. These rewrites are based on the same rules used during checking, so fixes are consistent and on brand.
- Accept and publish the rewritten content directly.
- Share it with writers for their review and approval.
- Integrate it into downstream workflows like localization or publishing.
Content rewriting significantly reduces editing time, helps improve quality at scale, and keeps your content perfectly aligned, even in fast-moving or AI-driven environments.
Content Scores
Every piece of content that runs through the API gets a set of standardized scores that reflect overall quality and alignment with your writing guidelines. These scores are returned consistently across the checks, suggestions, and rewrites endpoints. This makes it easy to track quality, compare documents, and monitor trends across workflows.
Use scoring to:
- Benchmark content quality across all distribution channels
- Identify poor quality and non-compliant content that needs attention
- Track content quality progress over time across teams or tools
- Trigger automated decisions based on quality thresholds such as content quality gates
