Guidance Profiles

A Guidance Profile determines the type of guidance that writers receive from the Sidebar. If you have Checking Profiles enabled, then a Guidance Profile corresponds to a Checking Profile. This means there is one Guidance Profile for each Checking Profile.

If you have disabled Checking Profiles, then your Guidance Profiles will correspond to your Writing Guides with all the check settings enabled. This gives you less control over the type of guidance that writers see in the Sidebar. We recommend enabling Checking Profiles.

Writers can pick a Guidance Profile from the Sidebar, which automatically sets their check settings.

This makes your Analytics more reliable, and takes the pressure off writers to choose the right settings.

To set the check settings for a Guidance Profile, edit the check settings in the relevant Checking Profile.

Editing the Check Settings

You can create Checking Profiles that have different combinations of check settings for different user groups. When users open the Sidebar, their check settings match the settings that you have defined in their Checking Profiles.

To edit the check settings for a Checking Profile, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Guidance Settings > Checking Profiles
  2. In the Checking Profiles table, select the Checking Profile that you want to edit.
  3. In the Checking Profile Settings panel, select the CHECK SETTINGS tab and select the required check settings.
    The availability of the check settings depends on what Writing Guide you select. For some Writing Guides, settings like New Terms or Reuse might not be available. These settings might be disabled because your linguistic administrator has not configured the Writing Guide with the guidance settings that these settings require.
  4. Click SAVE

    If the Checking Profile is already assigned to users, the changes take effect immediately.
